Technical Specs - Server Options
There are a number of hosting options available on the market.
We have considered some of the options available, and as a consequence
have chosen a dedicated server solution; which would be accessible
using a new International Decision Systems® domain name.
The Data Download Facility met stringent criteria before it was launched. These include:
- Bandwidth capacity and growth (See table of bandwidth requirements)
- Uncontended bandwidth at peak times
- Solid hardware base and stability
- Backup
- Server Performance
- Network stability and reliability
- Speed and quality of FTP download
- Server support
- Security of Customer/IDS data
The hardware solution is the following:
- HP DL360, Linux Xeon 2.8Ghz P4 CPU with 1 x 36Gb (scsi) RAID
1 hard drives and 1 Gb RAM.
- 50GBs bandwidth per month, and capacity to grow to 300Gbs
per month
- Tier1 data centre with multiple backbone providers, fire
and backup power precautions
The reasons for selecting this configuration are as follows:
- Large supplier with expandable bandwidth options. Proven
backbone and multiple carriers including LinX.
- RAID 1 hard drives to offer data protection in the event
of a drive failure.
- 36Gb hard drive has ample space for the client data, application
data and one months worth of core data.
- Tier 1 provider (owns and operates own network) with transfer
speed of 100Mbit/second to external backbone providers.
- Secure environment to ensure safety of application and data.
- Starting bandwidth of 50Gbs per month with non-chargeable
100Mbs burst, allowing monitor of usage and easy increase to
match requirement
- A dedicated server platform as opposed to a shared server
allows unrestricted addition of any server components or tools
as necessary.
